NeoTech DAF process consists of super saturation of discharge water from the effluent end of the system tank with air. The super saturated water stream is then mixed with the waste stream and pressurized in pressure tube. A sudden release of pressure from the saturated stream millions of microscopic bubbles form and attach themselves to the contaminants of oil and solids in the wastewater, thereby changing their buoyancy and floating them to the water surface where they can be skimmed and removed from the water.

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is a water treatment process that clarifies wastewaters (or other waters) by the removal of suspended mattersuch as oil or solids. The removal is achieved by dissolving air in thewater or wastewater under pressure and then releasing the air atatmospheric pressure in a flotation tank basin. The released air formstiny bubbles which adhere to the suspended matter causing thesuspended matter to float to the surface of the water where it may thenbe removed by a skimming device.

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is the process which is used for removal of suspended solids, oils and other contaminants with the help of air bubble flotation. Air is dissolved into water,mixed with the wastestream and released from solution while in intimate contact with the contaminants. Air bubbles form, attach to the solids, increase their buoyancy and float the solids to the water's surface. A percentage of the clean effluent is recycled and super-saturated with air, mixed with the wastewater influent and injected into the DAF separation chamber.The dissolved air comes out of solution, producing millions of microscopic bubbles. These bubbles attach to the solids and float them to the surface where they are mechanically skimmed and removed from the tank. The NeoTech dissolved air flotation systems are designed toremove fats, oils & grease (FOG), suspended solids, food/animal production/processing wastes,industrial wastes, hydrocarbon oils/emulsions and many other contaminants. Clarification ratesas high as 90% or more can be achieved using our dissolved air flotation systems. Chemicalpretreatment can often help to improve the performance of contaminant removal.
How does a DAF system work:
Wastewater is pumped into a DAF (Dissolved air flotation) system and mixed with a stream of“whitewater”, which is recirculated clarified water from the DAF that is super saturated withdissolved air. As these two stream mix together, microscopic bubbles attach to solidparticulates, giving them enough buoyancy to go to the surface of the DAF tank.
As solids accumulate in a floating layer of sludge on the top of the DAF tank, a skimmer gently pushes the sludge toward a discharge tank or hopper.
Any solids that don’t float will sink to the “V” bottom of the DAF tank. Settled solids are concentrated and discharged by an automatically controlled pneumatic drain valve.
The clarified water flows out via an under-over weir on either side of the DAF unit. Some of this water is used in the recirculation loop while the rest flows out of the vessel for discharge or further treatment.
